I'm always amazed at Moms that look on top of the world right after giving birth and taking care of a newborn around the clock. Let's just say, I did NOT pull that off! Custom photography is not necessarily a new concept, but one that is becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional retail studio photography. There are numerous benefits to hiring a custom photographer. Some of the most appealing are listed below.

1. Personal attention to every detail. Custom photographers do not mass produce their work. They schedule fewer sessions that a retail chain, and ensure that every photo is absolutely perfect in every way.

Senior Winter Shoot - MM Photography - Sugar Land Photographer

I met Levi a few weeks back and did his senior pictures for him. We did the necessary cap and gown and formal pictures to make his Mom and Dad proud and happy. Then we did some that show exactly who he is. He is very creative and involved in his town. He's very active with his church and his alternative grunge rock band. He loves skateboarding and hanging with his friends. It was a lot of fun for me to switch gears and shoot a senior boy on a winter day in the country!

We had the pleasure of photographing this sweet little girl. A girl with amazing, beautiful eyes and a million expressions in a span of an hour! It was our first time to meet so we were just kind of getting acquainted but I think she wound up enjoying herself....especially once the pettiskirt came out! One thing was for sure... she loved her Mom. She often went back for a quick hug and bit of reassurance. That always touches this Mommies heart!

Six Years Ago Today! - MM Photography - Sugar Land Photographer

Six years ago today my life changed forever... in ways I kind of expected and in ways I never even knew existed. My first child was born. I waited until pretty late to get started on having children so my life was pretty organized and in control up until that point! It has not been either of those things since!

This little guy had a pretty rough birth and several months of seizures that turned out to be benign. But we didn't know that for several months so it was pretty scary. Because of that our lives changed in ways we had not planned on. I quit my "day job" at M.D. Anderson and became a stay at home mom. Isn't there a saying that goes if you want to amuse God tell him your plans? He definitely rewrote our plan for us and blessed us beyond our imaginings. I prayed that He would help us find a way to stay home with our baby for 6 months. God answered that prayer and just keeps on answering it... six years later! I have been amazed and a bit weepy all week as I've realized that God has made a way, often when there seemed to be no way, for me to stay home with my children for six whole years! What an amazing, amazing gift to have been given! I have loved being a mom and raising these kids. They are truly gifts from God.

Thomas is imaginitive, creative, hilariously funny (even his tired, old Star Wars knock, knock jokes are funny the way he tells them) and loving. This boy is wonderfully affectionate and considerate. He keeps us on our toes and has some renewable source of super energy that I envy on a daily basis! I knew when I had children that I would love them and they would hopefully love me. I knew there would be warm, happy feelings of pride and joy. What I didn't know until this little guy came into my life was that it would be a love and a joy and a peace to this magnitude. I didn't know it would be beyond words and description... and my simple imaginings. I thank God for the gift of this little boy and I thank all of you for your years of support, encouragement, fun and business! :)

I know it seems that Mother's Day and Father's Day are miles away but really... they aren't! Tired of giving the same ole, same ole? Wouldn't you love to give a gift from the heart that they'd treasure for years? Of course, portraits are always MY number one suggestion. I think we all treasure those memories above any pair of houseshoes or even a dinner out. They last forever. Another idea that even I forget about sometimes are items with the pictures on them that we can have with us in our day to day life. I have a whole collection of handbags, makeup bags, men's wallets, shaving kits, women's wallets, tote bags, beach bags, etc. You just name it! There are even pillows and blankets. These are not the cheapie mail order or Shuddermefly bags. These are high quality, classic bags. I love them. One catch... they take about 3 weeks to get from the time we order so.... for those Mother's Day, Father's Day presents we should start ordering them fairly soon!

They come in leather, microfiber, canvas, and so on. They can have pictures on one side or both. Here's just a few samples of the products (with photos I've taken, of course!) But there are literally dozens of options... houndstooth, brown, black, etc. Shoot me an email if you'd like to see some of your own photos done up as a sample and pricing done. Family is the Glue! - MM Photography- Sugar Land Photographer

I love the opportunity to photograph families, especially extended families. I feel like when families are this close you can feel it when they enter the room and I am often reminded during these shoots of just how important families are. They act as the glue that holds so much of our lives together. I think it's wonderful to have pictures of the whole group together and then all the side relationships documented. Having those portraits around the house just reminds us daily of our importance to each other and the "solidness" (did I make that word up?) that being a part of such a wonderful group gives us.

This family that I photographed just after Christmas is one of those close,solid families and I know both women in this family quite well, I'm proud and honored to say! They are both women of great faith and great endurance. The serve as role models really. They are wonderful Mothers and I'm so glad they have these portraits to treasure. Now the men.... can we just say handsome? When they walked in the testosterone in the room with these men in dark suits and manly attitudes when off the charts! We took too many groups and poses to include in a blog but here are a few to share.... and stay tuned because later this month Mary, Dwayne and their 3 kiddos are coming in for a smaller family portrait time! Yay! Mary's daughters were some of my very first clients so I'm excited to get new pictures with their new baby brother!

Sharing the Twin Love! - Twin Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

Here is yet another adorable set of twins we had over for a busy sitting! Am I not one of the luckiest photographers to get such a good number of twins... and once again... super cute! I've had at least a dozen people ask me lately if I only accept beautiful clients! That would seem to be the case!

We got lots of great individual pictures of these guys but whenever we got them together they just wanted to share a hug or a kiss... or posssibly a wrestle! They are very busy! Mom is expecting #3 and is on bed rest. Say a prayer for her because I know it's frustrating not to do all that she's used to and yet she's doing everything she can for the new baby to be born healthy! Dad was wonderful with the kids during the shoot. He was crawling around on the floor, wiping noses and keeping the kids in front of the camera! What a super hero and what a patient guy! Kudos to him!

Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice - Twin Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

A continuation on the week of toddler twins... You are going to fall in love with these twins! They are model perfect, beautiful babies and so sweet. Their smart mom has kept them so healthy that they haven't really had sugar! They eat organic and healthy! Isn't that great? So... being the great photographer that I am and the great lover of sugar that I am.... I introduced these kids to some sugar! Yes. I did. It was a lot of fun just to sit back and watch! We gave them each a GIANT lollipop and they had no clue what to do with them. They turned them over and inspected them. They looked at each other in confusion! Then Big Man Dean took the plunge and liked what he found! Shortly after Riley gave it a go. They liked them but weren't sure how to eat them at first. They'd tip their heads back and try to drink them. But believe me, they got the hang of it!

I've had several sessions with these twins since they were newborns and I am just amazed at how they have grown and changed over the last 18 months, just a reminder of how important it is to have portraits along the way as they change so much. Their parents are truly blessed to have such sweet, beautiful kids! I can't wait to see them all again this spring for their first outdoor shoot!

Twins, twins, twins!!! - Twin Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

We've been so lucky to have sets of twins to photograph in abudance this year and it's been a lot of fun... and a great workout! One week before Christmas I did 3 sets of twins in less than a week and they were all toddlers. Woohoo! They were all super good just busy, busy, busy and often busy in the opposite direction!! I had renewed respect for moms of multiples after that week. They have double the joy for sure but man! They have their hands full 24/7. So, I'm going to start off with Leigh Ann Cloutier (of Leigh Ann Cloutier Designs... great interior designer if you need one!) and her boys. She has an older son and the set of younger twins. We did a twilight session outside her home and then followed up with a quick studio session a few nights later. She designed her own Christmas card and I used pictures from the outdoor shoot to put it together. It's a two-sided, full-bleed trifold card that you can see on my website under creations and cards. Here's a few pictures of her beautiful boys. (The other sets of twins from that week will be posted in the next couple of days!)

The Week That Was!!! - MM Photography - Sugar Land Photographer

Sheesh! You've heard the song, "Mama said there'd be days like this"? Well, I wonder if she ever said there would be WEEKS like this! Last week was quite the week. Glad we have a fresh new start today. Last week was busy with both good, bad and kind of ridiculous as well! We started off celebrating my grandmother's 98th birthday. She is truly a remarkable lady and there were lots and lots of people, food and flowers to celebrate her day with her. Here's a few pictures of her with my kids and one of my neices. As you can see, she knows how to dress for the party!

Tuesday was TAX DAY my least favorite of days really. I did my quarterly business taxes and started on our personal taxes. Blech. Why do they have to make taking all our money so complicated??? Just say "Hand it over." and be done with it. Perhaps it's because after days of torture trying to figure it all out we are only too happy to write the check and be done. Hmmm... maybe.

Wednesday was a crazy day running here and there, phone ringing off the wall, etc. Pretty much a normal day UNTIL... as I was mopping the floor and running the dishwasher my son called for my attention around the corner. They were eating an after school snack at their table. Being SO good I THOUGHT. When I looked around the corner expecting to be shown a clean plate and a big smile. Instead I see two children that look a bit like refugees. My son had taken scissors and cut my daughters hair down to the scalp in places and gouged his own. Over the last few days I've heard friends and clients telling similar stories and they laugh as they tell them so I know we'll laugh mroe with time. Okay, I'm kind of laughing a little now... as long as it doesn't happen again. Hair DOES grow back after all. Here's a look a their new "dos". (Warning...not professional pictures. Just snaps!) Neither one wanted to give me a real smile. Guess they're kind of missing their hair?

Oh! And did I mention that on Thursday my kitchen water faucet decided to spring a MAJOR leak and went bizerk??? No? Well, it was a lot of fun and the clean up was wonderful. I could plan how to repair my children's hair while doing the task! The GOOD news is that my husband and I had an hour alone without children at Lowe's in the kitchen faucet department. (We take dates whenever and wherever we can.) We picked out a beautiful new Moen faucet that I dealy love! What a great faucet she is. She doesn't leak and she's all new and shiny so it all worked out in the end! Thank goodness I married a man that knows how to fix things without calling in those high dollar repair guys!

Well, this week I've been doing photoshoots of newborns and cake smashes and I didn't do any of that in December so I thought since it's Friday and it's my blog I can do whatever I want and skip ahead for just one day and share some newborn wonderfulness with you! I promise to get back my regularly scheduled postings after this!

On Saturday we did a photoshoot for Miss Carmela. She is the sweetest, most laid back newborn, not to mention gorgeous! Her parents were so laid back and willing to try anything! I love that! We got so many different poses and ideas used that I'm having trouble deciding which ones to post. So that's kind of a warning that there might be a lot of pictures in this post! But that's okay, right? Again, my blog and I can do what I want! We all love a peaceful, soft, wonderful newborn enough to see lots of pictures of them!

I should probably post a warning that looking at these pictures will most likely cause baby fever! Prepare yourself!

Greatwood Family - Sugar Land Photograher - MM Photography

In December this Greatwood family came back in for their Christmas pictures. I've had so much fun watching these sweet little girls grow. The youngest one came in for her first photo session when she was just 5 days old and now look at her all grown up in her red silk dress and walking around! It seems like only yesterday she was just a tiny little baby that fit in her daddy's hand! I just can't wait to see how they change over the next few years. We'll capture all those stages for this wonderful family. We had more pictures of Big Sister because she came ready to pose! Little Sister was feeling her independence that day so we just let her be independent and captured a few photos of her for the card! That's how it goes! Probably next time Little Sister will be all ready to go and Big Sister will have different ideas. Seems to work that way in most family photo sessions, right?

We had a quick afternoon/evening shoot with some of my favorite girls last month. Hillary is one of the people that most encouraged me to get into this business and has been a wonderful encourager and supporter all the way through! She brought her girls by for their Christmas pictures again this year and while they were here we did a quick picture of Hillary and her mom and just the girls! What a great looking group, right? Now our goal is to have a family shoot before too long that includes their awesome men as well!! :) I'm sure they're starting to feel left out of all the fun!

This lovely family was scheduled to have their photoshoot early one Saturday morning in November and we woke up to rain and mud so we postponed for one week. The next Saturday morning it was a sunny, pretty day. Not a cloud in the sky. Which is great in some ways but sometimes tough for pictures. The parents were great sports and hiked across stones to get to the shady size of the pond. That way we avoided squinty eyes! The girls have the most AMAZING blue eyes don't they?? So much fun to photograph and I did nothing to them in editing. They are just naturally gorgeous eyes! I would have been really sad to have them squinty! Here are a few from their photo session.

Moore Family Holiday Photos - Missouri City Family Photographer - MM Photography

So, I'm a few dozen shoots behind in my blogging so I have tons to share and now that the crazy Christmas holiday rush is over I can start sharing some of the fun we had getting all those photo shoots in! It was crazy and fun... and I needed a looong winter's nap when it was all done. Now that I'm all rested I'm ready to go again!

First, we have a VERY special family from Missouri City. The mom of the family happens to be my sister a fantastic author/writer...and friend. (Check out her blog at http://www.rachelphifer.com/ )We did a few pictures one morning in late October at a wonderful nursery around the corner.... Enchanted Gardens. We got some pictures and then had fun decorating pumpkins. A few days later the girls came back for some indoor pictures. We are currently decorating one wall in their home with various sized pictures in a fun grouping and then doing 3 big canvases in the chocolate/fudge for her entry way. I also created a few storyboards for them to give as Christmas gifts. Love them all. Here are a few of their shots. Anyone want to see the wall we've designed? Let me know and I'll post that as well!

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town! - Sugar Land Event Photographer - MM Photography

We will be at the Greatwood Retirement Center this Saturday from 11:30am to 3pm with Santa!! Woohoo! We will be set up to take pictures of the kiddos, the residents, and yes...even the pets as they come through. Grandview Fellowship will be there hosting to meet and greet with cookies and drinks. Live Christmas music will be provided. It's all free just bring a toy to donate to a child of the Angel Tree. The address is 7001 Riverbrook Drive. This is our 4th year at this event and we LOVE it every year. The residents are so much fun and love having all that company! It's a lot of fun! I hope we get to see you there!

Three Adorable Brothers - Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

Can it really be that it's been almost a month since I posted to my blog??? It would seem so. Time seems to fly by this times of year! Let me see if I can catch up some posting this week!

First, I must post a few pictures from this shoot we did in mid-October with these three adorable brothers. The older boys are twins that we've had the honor of photographing before. They are both always so good. This year they've had a new baby brother to join the family and is he ever cute! When I was editing his photos I keep looking at those big blue eyes, rosy, chubby cheeks and sweet smile and thought he just looks like a doll more than a real live boy. Isn't he just perfect? He's definitely got a mixture of his older brothers features. It was a romping time to get them all in the photo at the same time and looking in the same direction but in the end we got some "real life" pictures of how they interact that I just love. At the end of the photoshoot I pulled out giant lollipops. Now, I HAD asked mom beforehand and the boys DID love them but I'm not sure how well their white shirts fared afterwards! We had fun while they lasted though!

Halloween Costume Picture Time! - Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

I have had about a dozen people ask me when I was going to be scheduling Halloween Costume pictures. Silly me! I'd never thought of doing that before! I'm so glad I have clients smarter than I am! So... hey! It's time to get your Halloween pictures done! I'm going to schedule two days of Halloween mini-sessions. You just call me and schedule your child and I'll block off about 10-15 minutes per child and we'll pop them in and get a quick picture of them in all of their Halloween cuteness. There is no sitting fee so come on in! The dates will be... October 24th and October 31st only until 2pm as I have to get my own little ghosts and ghoblins all dressed and ready for their festivities! I'll schedule first come serve until the slots are all gone so grab your calendars and book soon!

And yes! I do have about 6 templates for Halloween cards if anyone is interested. I've had two families ask about those. I'll post what some of them look like here so you can get the idea.

One Year Old Girl Cake Smash Photosession! - Sugar Land Photographer - MM Photography

We had a really "girly" cake smash photosession last week. Lots of fun! She had a blast in her pettiskirt/tutu and picture posing with her mom. Then we had a romping cake smash! She's not quite 1 yet but we were doing her birthday invitations and a 1 year cake smash storyboard so we planned this photoshoot one month before her birthday! Isn't she the most just gorgeous 11 month old ever?! She has great genes so that helps! Enjoy her pictures!

I've had several people ask me this week about Halloween pictures. If you have an interest in having a day... maybe the day before Halloween or the day of... where you could stop by in 15 minute time slots I could have everything set up and do a couple of quick shots of your kids in their costumes that could be fun. No sitting fee... just a sort of a portrait party. Let me know what you think and we'll get something set up!

One thing I love about my Stages Package is that I get to see clients back in the studio at least 4 times in the first year of the baby's life! I get to watch them change and grow so much in that first year and we get to know each other as we go along so the shoots get more and more fun as we both kind of know what to expect from each other. I did two 6 month olds for two different families recently that were so much fun!

First, Miss Ella's mom brought a rocking chair for the pictures. This is so cool because Ella's grandmother and mother both had their pictures taken in this same chair so we went for a more timeless set of poses and pictures.

Then came Mr. Ryan a couple of weeks later. He completely worked the camera for me! And he is already crawling around and pulling himself up and wanting to walk at 6 months old! I told his mom to get on her running shoes! Wow! 6 months old and walking around holding on to things! Both of these 6 month olds have the sweetest, most laid-back attitudes and great big, gorgeous eyes! I love photographing both of them so much. I made a few storyboards for Ryan's that I'll post here and then I must include one close-up of those big eyes! (Second storyboard won't post big... sorry about that. I'm html challenged to say the least but you get the drift!)

Cornfield!

A couple of weeks after the wheat field shoot we did a shoot in a cornfield just behind our neighborhood. Leigh Ann Cloutier of Cloutier Designs brought her precious sons in the late afternoon for a quick shoot. She has identical twin boys that had just turned one and started to walk. They may be identical but they have different opinions on where they want to walk, sit and be so getting them together was a rousing time for us all to try to get them in the same shot at the same time! We got a few shots in the corn and then went a few blocks into the neighborhood to "the bridge" that I've used a LOT this year because we just have such good luck there. We got so many mommy and son pictures with Leigh Ann and her oldest son that I ahd a hard time choosing which ones to use in the storyboard. I'm going to post two storboards with some of the pictures. Leave me a comment and let me know which board you like best.

I'm going to do a couple more summer posts this week and then just move on BECAUSE I need to post the new Christmas card designs I've purchased that will be available to you this year! Yay! I'm also going to post a couple of SPECIALS so stay tuned!!!

Wheat Fields!

Back at the beginning of summer we did a shoot in the wheat fields. The "Farmer" and his family invited us down to the farm and we took some early morning pictures. It was fun but I gotta say... HOT! It was hot even early in the morning! We worked pretty fast and they headed off to the beach and we headed to the pool to recover! My kids went with me so the last few pictures I'll post are of my munchkins! It was my first time to shoot in the wheat fields so I'm excited to do it again next year and take furniture, etc. I can just see the pictures now!!

Luke Turns One!

I love it when we have a brand new client that enrolls in the Stages Package with their newborn. Not only do we get to see and photograph a sweet, brand new baby but then we know for sure we'll see them every few months for their first year and watch all the changes as they happen. Little Luke came to us when he was just tiny and new and slept so perfectly for his newborn shoot. Right on target he did the pushing up and the sitting up and now look at him. He's STANDING up and celebrating being one! He has kept his sweet, easy-going way all the way through. (Think he got it from his mom!) He's a happy guy and has been so much fun to play with and photograph! Can't wait to see what comes next with him. Sister Fun!

6 months ago I was lucky enough to photograph Miss Macy when she was just a few days old. She was so tiny and so sleepy that day! She was the kind of baby that gives you the baby "fever" all over again... and you know what I mean. In May Macy and her big sister Rose came back for pictures with their mom for enlargements for their home... and for Father's Day presents. I love getting to see the kids I photograph grow with each stage and see how they change. What a difference 6 months can make! She's grown so much and has such a sweet personality. I loved the "pucker lip" shots she kept giving me! Cracked me up completely! I hope you enjoy a few pictures from their photo shoot.

One Year Old Cake Smash

A couple of months ago we had the pleasure of photographing little Bryson as he turned one smashing his cake. He had such a fun time and made a royal mess to entertain us all! Bryson is the first-born son of a dear friend of mine. He was born without muscles behind his eyes so he's had some challenges to overcome. But don't tell him that. He's so smart, he's figured all kinds of ways around it! He's had several surgeries to replace the muscles and has done so well with all of those surgeries! What a guy! And I think you can tell just from these few pictures that he's one happy guy! My kids and I have enjoyed being with him every chance we get! Enjoy viewing his cake smashing fun and wish Bryson a happy and healthy new year!

Big Sister/Little Brother

For those of you just tuning in we are revamping the way our blog looks by making the photos bigger and I'm playing catch up on some of the sessions we did in April, May and June. (I got a little behind in my blogging!)

We did a session for this wonderful family at the end of April. Big Sister was so proud of her new Little Brother. Both kids were AMAZINGLY well behaved and Little Brother was so alert and so happy for such a little guy. The family bought the "Stages Package" so we'll have the joy of watching him as he grows this year! I'm excited about that since they are both beautiful children and so good to work with! Here are a few pictures from that day.

Family Heritage and Recitals all in one day!

I was asked to come photograph some little musicians at their Spring recital. What a treat! It was a fun little event held in the Greatwood Retirement Center here. At the end of the recital one of my all-time favorite people and clients asked me to take a picture for her. She had her grandmother, mother and daughters there so we had the 4 generations all present. We pulled a small table over and put all their hands together in a circle. I love that they preserved this time in the family's life in this way....

Here are three of the musicians I photographed at the recital. They dressed up so pretty and played with confidence and enthusiasm. It was nice to see all the family members all showing up and supporting them. I had a great time!

More Bluebonnets!

A few days later we headed toward Brenham for an afternoon shoot with three families. The kids had a blast in this great big field of bluebonnets. As you know, bluebonnets attract fire ants and moles so many fields look pretty but aren't good to have kids running through. This particular field has been maintained so we had no bugs, holes, etc. to worry about. Here are a few shots for our afternoon.

Miss "L" lost her first tooth just before our shoot so we had to be SURE to document her pretty new smile! Isn't she so cute?

The Worst Blogger!

I am the world's worst blogger. When things get busy my blog obviously goes to the back burner. In the Spring we had so many shoots in so many different directions and my kids had so many end of year school programs and activities that life just got a bit crazy for me to update my blog the way that I really SHOULD. What can I say? I will try to do better! Now that things have slowed a bit I'm going to update as often as I can with a sampling of what all we've been up to around here and then finally I'll let you know what will be coming up. We have some fun things scheduled for later in July and August!

I'm going to start today with our first Bluebonnet shoot of the season. These two moms were as busy as me and didn't have the time to drive out of town to bluebonnets so they found a small patch right here in Sugar Land/Missouri City that we ventured to one afternoon after school. The kids had fun and we got some good pictures of both sets of kids!

Bluebonnet shoots this year have been so "iffy" because we were worried about the drought all through the hill country impacting the blue bonnets. We went out for a drive this past weekend and found two fields of really pretty bluebonnets. I really wanted a private property owned field but the only ones I could find were all the way in Austin and most of you guys just don't have that kind of time right now. SO.... we are going to have bluebonnet picture days this Saturday and next Saturday, March 28 and April 4. We will do them later in the afternoon so the sun won't be too harsh and give us squinty kids! There will be LIMITED spaces so we will do this first come, first serve. A $15 deposit will hold your place and be your sitting fee as well. (The field is in the Hempstead area so the drive will be about an hour away.)

Then in late April and early May we are going to have two really, really fun shoots. One will be in the corn fields and one will be in the wheat fields. I'm so excited for these shoots that I just can't tell you. Little girls pull out your tutus, white dresses, and so on! Little boys pull out your overalls, caps, etc. These pictures will be amazing and definitely not "run of the mill". These pictures will more like pieces of art to hang in your home. I'm looking at doing this on weekdays as well as weekends so please give me your feedback and we'll work on nailing down the schedule next week. Both of these fields are on private property so that's perfect. The corn field is about 15-20 minutes south of Sugar Land and the wheat field is close to an hour away. We can caravan down or you can come on your own. How fun is this????!!! I'm very excited about these opportunities!

Williams Trace Children's Day Out

A couple of weeks ago we did the school portraits for the Williams Trace CDO program. What an absolutely amazing group of kids! Really. These kids were so sweet and so smart it just blew me away. We took pictures of 80-something kids in less than 3 hours and I have to say we had a really good time. Preschoolers can entertain like no one else. If you don't think so, just take a look at the change of emotions we had on this little guy's face to get his picture and you'll see the kind of fun we had. This guy is smart as a whip. I'm fairly certain he can be anything he wants to be when he grows up, but he sure has the knack for making others smile and laugh!

I can not say enough about the way the teachers and directors at Williams Trace CDO care for these kids. It's the best I've seen anywhere!

Babies and Dogs and Photos! Oh my!

Sometimes babies can be a challenge to photograph if they're not in the mood for a photography session. Sometimes a dog can be a challenge to photograph if they don't like the photographer (say it can't be!). So a couple of weeks ago we had a shoot with a baby and a dog in the same shoot. We were so, so lucky they both came to play and loved having their photographs taken! We got pictures of each parent with "B" and then together as a family. I felt very rewarded that the dad, who usually doesn't smile for photos I'm told, smiled for many of the pictures. What a difference a baby and a dog can make to a non-smiler! You can't help but smile with them in the room! We even got some pictures of man and his best friend! What more could you ask for in photo shoot? We had fun and I have to say this family was WONDERFUL to work with. Baby "B"'s first birthday is coming up next week so everybody send her some big birthday wishes!

From Russia With Love!

Not so original with the title but I couldn't resist! Back in December we had a lovely family come in for a Sunday afternoon family photo shoot. The family lives right in here in Greatwood but are originally from Russia. Never has so much Russian been spoken in my home! It was a thrill! The parents/grandparents decided to come at the last moment and I am so glad they did. "Mom" was very shy to have her picture taken but we gave her a hard enough time and gave her funny enough words to say that we caught her smiling in pictures! We got pictures of the kids alone and their Mom wanted pictures of herself to give to the kids. She is amazingly beautiful so we just had fun for a few minutes and captured her great spirit for them!

Riley and Dean's Return!

We had a fun Saturday before Christmas shoot with some of my favorite twins, Riley and Dean. They came equipped with several cute little outfits and we got some precious shots of them in each outfit but one of my favorite shots is of Riley wrapped up in one of my chiffon pettiskirts. Such a girly photo and we love it so much I made a storyboard of just those shots. Of course, we have a storyboard of Dean and a storyboard of the twins together as well. Here's a few shots from their photo session. I just love their big, beautiful eyes. You'll see that Dean was his usual serious, curious, intense tough guy and Riley knew how to work the camera with giggles and smiles! They have such distinct personalities already, but they are definitely some of the best babies I've had the pleasure of working with!

Meet the "Farmer"!

For those of you following my blog you'll remember a couple of months ago I told the story of expecting a farmer and his wife to come in for a photo session with their newborn baby. So, in December the "farmer" came in with his wife and two daughters for a family photo session. What a wonderful family and as you'll see from the photos the "farmer" is one proud daddy! Ready for Prime Time!

These three guys are definitely ready for prime time! Not only are they 3 good looking "dudes" but they know how to a) dress, b) do the hair, and c) POSE! These guys were in and out of the studio in about 15 minutes inbetween all of their many activities they were attending to. I was worried about the photo session time crunch but I didn't need to worry. The guys and their mom have the photo session routine down to a science! They were so fun and so polite at the same time! I can't even decide which pictures to post for you guys to see a sample!

Christmas Photos with a New Family Addition!

This family I photographed a few weeks ago had a new baby girl added to their family picture for the first time. How fun is that? She was the sweetest, easiest baby. We did a few pictures inside by the tree and then headed out to what is becoming my favorite bridge to do family shoots around! We got some good Daddy and Daughter pictures and then worked in a few family shots as well. I really enjoyed meeting this family and I know you'll love seeing them, too!

I love doing family photo shoots... and family of family is even better! A couple of weeks after I did the "Camera Shy" guy below I had a photo shoot with "K"s sister and her family. They were really looking forward to an outdoor shoot for their Christmas card so we had booked a late Saturday afternoon and boom! The sun was a big ball of fire in the sky with not a cloud in site. I was worried about the kids having to squint to see me but we wound up just walking around the little lake and snapping away. These kids are adorable...and you'll see they come by it through parents with some great looks.

Camera Shy

I was scheduled to do a shoot for one of the wonderful directors from Primrose and her family a few weeks ago. Her son is a super cute little bundle of energy who just happens to hate cameras and photographers. Bad news for me. He runs from cameras and they make him pretty mad so I came armed and ready! We did several shots from a GREAT distance where they just walked and played as a family. Then I pulled out the heavy artillery... a giant multi-colored lollipop. He pretty much forgot about me and my camera for a few minutes and we just watched him lick the lollipop with great gusto....and managed a few pictures in the meantime. Here are a few pictures from that Saturday in the park....

Goodness! My phone has been ringing this week with many of you looking for December bookings. I am so sorry but we are completely and totally booked until 2009. I'm so grateful to all of you for all of the wonderful pictures and business in 2008! Wow! What a year it's been! I look forward to taking many more pictures with you all in 2009! But for 2008... no amount of chocolate can bribe me into another appointment! We have several sittings over the next few days and then editing and ordering like mad up until the last moment, I'm sure! For all of you with galleries open and decisions being made... think quick! We have to order by Monday to be sure your orders get here by Christmas! For those of you with bookings this week and this weekend... I'll edit and get everything to you as fast as my little fingers will go!

I also hope to update the blog with more of the sessions we've had over the last few weeks. It's just been so busy that I haven't been able to put many sessions up yet. When things slow down I'll share some more! Now... everybody go shopping! :)

Christmas Fun!

We had a fun shoot a couple of weeks ago with two sweet kids! Tyler was such a cutie and had a good time with our Santa and Christmas decorations. He's all boy! Had to take off his John Deere boots for the session! I've wished several times since they left that I would have gotten at least one shot of those great yellow and green cowboy boots! They were adorable! I'm pretty sure Santa will be visiting these guys with lots of gifts because I can't imagine they are ever anything but nice! We had so many cute shots in this session I can't even decide which ones to post!

Twins, twins, twins!!!

I remember my first year in the photography biz I wanted to photograph twins SO bad I could hardly stand the wait! Twins have always been so cute and interesting to me. This year we have had so many sets of twins to photograph that I feel like I must be the luckiest photographer around! I think we've had 14 sets of twins this year ranging in age from still in their mommy's tummy (maternity) to first graders. A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of photographing this cute set of 3 year old twins. They don't look at all alike but they are definitely twins. These little guys are the best behaved 3 year olds you could ask for and cute as buttons! We did a few shots outside and then moved inside for a few more because the sun was pretty tough outside that day. Enjoy seeing these cutie pies as we captured them this morning. The next shoot with these guys will include a new baby brother on the way! I can't wait!

Take Lots of Family Pictures This Holiday

Late last night my husband's "Little Grannie" passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. We were planning Thanksgiving lunch to be at their home tomorrow. We are so very grateful for the Grannie she was to all of us and that she went with no suffering or pain. It reminds me once again how quickly things can change and how valuable pictures are to me... and most of us to help us capture the memories of the times we had together. I thought I'd post a few pictures of last Thanksgiving with Grannie to remember her. You guys hug your Grannies and Grandpas and all of your loves ones often over the holidays and take lots of pictures. You know you'll value them for generations.

You can see why Grannie was known as "Little Grannie". She was barely 5 ft. tall and never broke 100 lbs. She was little but she worked hard all of her life and made her way in the world with no help from anyone! She was little but strong and ummm, shall we say stubborn? She loved being a Grannie and our Beth loved sitting and giggling with her. I tossed in a picture of the turkey the kids and I made last year. I know Grannie thought John's "city girl" wife is a little crazy making silly turkeys out of fruit but it was fun and she asked for a picture of it later so she must have wanted to tell somebody about it. I'll just post a couple of pictures but we have many more to keep our children's memories of their Great Grannie alive!

Santa is coming to town!

Tomorow we will be photographing Santa with the kids of Greatwood/Sugar Land at the Greatwood Retirement Center! We will be there from 9am-1pm. There is no sitting fee and no long line to wait through. This is also a Toys for Tots drive so please feel free to bring an unwrapped toy to put under the tree. The Marines will be there to take the toys to the distribution center for us. We always have such a good time at the Greatwood Santa Shoot. The residents of the center LOVE seeing all of the children coming through. One of the residents plays holiday music on the piano while we are there. We have cookies, cokes and coffee so come on over and have your photos taken with Santa! He's making his list and checking it twice! The retirement center is on Riverbrook just off the main entrance into Greatwood.

The Farmer

Sometimes things don't go as I imagine they will! A couple of weeks ago I got a call from a new mom. She'd just had her first baby and was about to leave the hospital and was booking her newborn shoot with me. Okay... I'm impressed already. I was a mess the day after I had my first! So, she tells me they are headed back to the farm and wants to book the session for 6 days later. Good. She mentions her husband is a farmer and tells me he'll be coming to the shoot. So, I'm thinking conservative, traditional shots. There could possibly be overalls involved. I have a farmer coming to town! I also had lots of "daddy and newborn" shots in mind. The day comes for the shoot and I answer the door and here stands this beautiful lady (that surely doesn't look like she just gave birth) and a precious baby girl. Dad had a spur of the moment meeting in his office in downtown Houston. I'm thinking, farmers have offices in downtown Houston? So, it turns out that they do like to farm on the weekends but Dad is an oil/gas professional downtown and mom is an ER Nurse. All my poses and preconcieved notions had to be thrown out! Out came my giraffe pillow, big floppy flowers, the works! Mom was so hip and so fun! This sweet baby slept like a dream and gave us some beautiful poses of her and the "farmer's wife" liked my giraffe pillow so much I thought she was going to sneak away with it! You just never know!

Cousins and Friends

A couple of weeks ago I had a rousing outdoor shoot with four cousins. Two loved the camera, one wasn't so sure and one had a definite need to run away! We accepted his challenge and managed to get some poses of these guys together and individually just before the sun set. The Moms were both very laid back and into making the photo session fun and nonstressful so we all just had some fun while capturing this stage of the cousins' lives. A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of photographing twins in their home. I had heard about these twins for some time and prayed for them as when they were newborns. When the mom called me to set up a date and a time she started telling me their story and I realized that these were the very babies we'd prayed for months ago. We scheduled the shoot and wouldn't you know? The day we had scheduled turned out to be the day Hurricane Ike swept into town! So we rescheduled and I was just so anxious to see these babies. They are absolutely gorgeous babies with the easiest, sweetest dispositions. Their Mom is lovely and manages to take care of twin newborns, while running a company, scheduling photos shoots and who knows what else? She's an amazing lady and I feel so honored that I got to capture these beautiful babies for her. Here are a few pictures from their shoot.

Last week I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful new newborn! Brand spankin' new! She is so very tiny and so very sweet. I am constantly amazed at just how tiny newborns are. Were mine ever really that small? (This is why we take pictures right away after they are born so we'll remember just how tiny and new they really were.) This little lady is just a rare beauty. She had a big sister that absolutely loves her but wasn't too interested in being photographed with her though we managed to capture a few shots together. Grown Up Fun!

August and September I had mostly newborn and toddler sessions. Last weekend I actually had all grown up shoots! Wow! Did we have fun! I'm going to share a few pictures here from a shoot we did with a family last Sunday evening. They are a family of five "grown up people"! No boogers had to be wiped away. No poop or pee hit the backdrops. Haha! The mom of this family is my daughter's speech therapist. If you need a speech therapist contact me and I'll give you her info. She is without a doubt the speech guru for this part of the world and we feel lucky and blessed to have her working with our daughter. She is married to a mellow and funny man and they have three daughters that are completely gorgeous. These girls all have striking eyes and are so sweet. Now.... I didn't say their names anywhere in this post. The family had so much fun on the outdoor shoot getting creative with their poses that they decided to spell out their last name in a shot above. The first person that figures out what name they are spelling and contacts me gets a free 8x10 from their next shoot!

Christmas is coming... sooner than you think!

I know. It's early October but have you been to any of the stores? They are already setting up Christmas! Can you believe it? And my bookings are going like crazy this time of year because everybody's getting their Christmas photos done. We wll need the photos for our Christmas cards and don't you think Grammy and/or Mom would really prefer a great portrait of her kids/grandkids instead of a boring pair of slippers??? So, plan ahead and get your booking in soon. We still have week day openings in October and November and a few weekend spots left for November.

Apparently the new "it" colors for this Christmas are browns with blues and greens mixed in. I just purchased a great set of card templates with these colors. I think they look great, however if you don't like the new "in" colors and would prefer the traditional red and green these can easily be converted from brown to green and blue/greens to red. And, of course, we have dozens of other templates here in the studio if these don't fit your fancy! I'll post just a few examples for you to see. I think it's so fun to have Christmas cards with our photos in them with a beautiful,
boutique look to them, don't you? Anyway, I'm so excited about my new cards that I'm going to give a set away! The first family to book their sitting after I post this blog will get a free set of 24 cards! Yay!

New Products!

We're adding a few new products to our line-up today. First we have a picture dry erase board. These will be available in 3 sizes: 9x6, 12x8 and 12x18. This would be so fun to have with a picture of your child or your family around the house or in the office. These will be priced at $30, $36 and $45.

Also added to our purse and leather collection is a new shaving kit. Every Dad needs a picture of his kids and family with him when he travels. An image on his shaving kit would be great, wouldn't it? These kits are made of durable microfiber and measure 10"wx5.5hx4.5d and sell for $65.

And to our purse collection we add the Gigi. All leather trim with substantial hardware upgrades introduce you to a well sized bag with a snap closure containing a full length zippered divider pocket. The liner also includes a 7" zipper pocket, 2 slip pockets and a lobster claw key clip. This purse has pictures on both sides and has metal feet. Primrose School of Greatwood

We are so excited to be doing the Fall Photos for the Primrose School of Greatwood this week. If you are a parent of a Primrose student I thought it might be helpful to post a picture of the basic setup we will be using. This is just my son with the basic materials as we were putting the set together. The setup will be slightly different this week depending on the age of your child. I thought it might be helpful for you to see the colors and the theme as you decide how to dress your child. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to email us or call us. I Do Not Like Ike!

We have had the most unwelcome guest come to visit this week. Early Saturday morning Hurricane Ike swiped through most of East Texas and on through states to our north creating an insane amount of damage. Obviously all bookings for last weekend and this week have been cancelled. Please just contact me when it's best for all of you and we will get you rescheduled as soon as possible. We have been very lucky here to have almost no damage to our home but we didn't have power there for a while and still don't have either landline or cell phone service. I understand FEMA has taken over AT&T lines so that probably explains it. For now, if you need to reach us you can email us and we will get back to you as soon as possible. I hope you all came through with very little damage and that your families are all safe and sound. Let me know how you all are. Above is a picture I took Friday night from our yard as the hurricane approached. Extreme beauty before the destruction.

Is this the most beautiful baby boy you've ever seen or what? He slept just a few minutes for us but what a face when he sleeps!!! It's enough to make me want another baby.... almost. For now I'm happy to capture these photos of baby "L" as he slept. I'm sure we'll be hearing "ooooohhhs" and "aaaaahhhs" from all over when you all see this sweet baby! Don't you just love it when the curl all up like this when they are newborns. Thanks to his sweet Mom for bringing him in! They bought the Stages Package so we'll have the pleasure of watching him grow and change regularly through the year!

Big Sister, Little Brother

Big Sister Sydney and Little Brother Ethan are two of the cutest kids! Big Sister Sydney is all girl in her pretty dresses and head full of gorgeous curls! She turned and posed and had some good modeling fun! Little Brother Ethan .... well, he was more interested in our toy collection but we did manage to grab him for a few minutes and that's all it took to capture his big, beautiful eyes and two year old enthusiasm! I'm so glad I got to spend some time with this special family. Their Mom is an awesome member of my MOPS group so that made the shoot even more fun for me! Enjoy a few shots from the morning...

It's almost September and I haven't posted any of the August sittings. Let me post today some from my toothless friend... Miss 'M". She has lost both of her bottom teeth! I'm just waiting for her to pull the top two so maybe we can say "All I Want For Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth" on her Christmas card. We had a really fun session using lots of her creative ideas for posing! Miss "M" knows how to have fun!

Senior Fun 2008

So, back in July I had the pleasure of taking some photos of "J" outdoors. She is absolutely stunningly beautiful, don't you think? She is a senior this year and will graduate in the Class of 2009. I'm going to pull some of the images we took and put them together in some fun 2009 templates and will post them later but I wanted to go ahead and get some pictures of her up for you guys to see. Every single picture we took of her that morning was great so it made it hard to choose the 4 to put on the blog! Leave a comment and wish her great success as her senior year begins! July Newborn

I'm going to start with an amazing little newborn shoot we did in July. Baby "L" was just adorable and cuddly AND she slept for us which is always wonderful! She's already showing everybody how smart and determined she is. At just a few weeks old she can completely flip herself over onto her tummy any time she wants! Smart girl! Her mom owns a workout/training gym in Richmond so I think it might just be in the genes! Here are a few of her pictures. Isn't she beautiful?

Slow Start!

Okay! I'm off to just a REALLY slow start to my blog! I must get in the swing of this! July was a crazy month with a looong family reunion up in Central Texas that was a LOT of fun! Almost the whole crew was there. Since I've gotten to know most of you personally I thought I'd share a few pictures. We all stayed in my cousin's house. Amazing house and it held us all! We took a group picture of everyone there... in noontime sun! Aaaahhhh! A photographer's nightmare! We had lots of fun in the pool and my 96 year old grandmother had so much fun at the "party" as she calls it getting to sit and visit with all her generations!

We also went on nice vacation but I won't bore you guys to death with that. This week I'll post some of my favorite shots from the shoots we did in July. We had some cutie pies in the month of July that I know you'll oooh and aaahh over!

Okay! To go with the brand spankin' new website we now have a spiffy new blog. Okay. It's not as spiffy as I want because I can't get my pretty paper to show up down the sides but I'll figure that out later... I hope! I have learned that I definitely need to stick with photography and not all this website html jargon!
